I was also in search for something that could just as easily be carried while hiking but not feel too heavy on my back or shoulders. I love this bag. I now have room for all my supplies with more than enough room to grow with comfort. Shortly after receiving this bag, I took it on a 5 mile hike and nearly forgot I was carrying my bag because it felt so light and comfortable. Recently I obtained a telephoto lens for my Nikon D40 and outgrew the small bag I used to carry around. I was looking for something that I could not only carry my D40 with the new lens, but also the old lens, several guide books, my cleaning supplies, and more.
I need one for both so I'm returning mine tomorrow The laptop area shown in the picture is actually a thinly lined pocket meant for incidentals. The backpack is more than adequate for a camera. However, it is not meant to carry a laptop (even tho there is a picture showing it).
Plenty of room & dividers for your gear, and two outside pockets for stowing your favorite lens (or water bottles). If you don't want to spend $80 or more on the professional-grade stuff, this backpack serves the amateur very well.
I recommend this to everyone I'm very happy with this bag it,s perfect, easy to care with you, keeps every thing in place.
This is a great bag for the beginner or to use for a backup camera. I currently have the camera body and four lenses with an assortment of accessories that easily fit within the bag. I'd prefer a lil more padding for carrying this bag during an all day event but well worth $40. A decent value camera bag for the money. The bag has quality construction with a good amount of storage space.
